Kazakhstan and EU sign new energy cooperation document

According to a report from the Kazakhstan News Agency on the 8th, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Smailov and European Commission President von der Leyen signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in new energy fields such as battery packs and green hydrogen value chains.

According to the website of the Kazakh Prime Minister's Office, Smailov said during his attendance at the 27th Conference of the parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change (COP27) that the EU is an important trading partner of Kazakhstan. The two sides see great potential to expand investment cooperation and increase mutual trade. The signing of the document will create conditions for financial and technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU. He said that Kazakhstan has diversified energy resources and convenient transit and transportation capacity, which is attractive to European businesses.

At the same time, he believes that "Kazakhstan has the ability to become a global green energy regional development center", and Kazakhstan will continue to increase the production and export of green hydrogen energy and promote the transition to green technology industry in Central Asia.

von der Leyen said that the EU and Kazakhstan have established strong economic ties and the signing of the memorandum of understanding aims to develop a long-term partnership between the two sides. She pointed out that now is the best time to strengthen bilateral cooperation. In the future, cooperation in new energy fields such as battery packs and green hydrogen production will be strengthened. At the same time, this will promote the global green and digital transformation process.
