Algeria to supply more gas to Italy
Algerian President Teben said on the 18th that Algeria will supply more natural gas to Italy.
Teben met with visiting Italian Prime Minister Draghi in the capital Algiers on the same day. Teburn said at a joint press conference that on the 19th, the Arab side will sign an agreement with Western Petroleum Corporation of the United States, Total Energy of France, Eni of Italy and other energy companies with a total amount of 4 billion US dollars. Through the agreement, Algeria will send "very much" gas to Italy.
Draghi said that Algeria is a "very important partner" of Italy. In recent months, Algeria has become Italy's largest source of natural gas imports.
Algerian News Agency reported on the 15th that the country will increase the supply of 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Italy. Since the beginning of this year, Algeria has exported 13.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Italy, compared with 21.2 billion cubic meters last year.
During Draghi's visit to Algeria in April this year, Algerian Oil and Gas Company signed an agreement with Eni of Italy. Algeria will increase its natural gas exports to Italy through the trans-Mediterranean pipeline from this autumn. Draghi said at the time that the signing of the agreement would reduce Italy's dependence on Russian gas. Before the outbreak of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russia was Italy's largest source of natural gas imports.
